The Democratic Alliance has called on President Jacob Zuma to withdraw his nomination of Judge Mogoeng Mogoeng for the position of Chief Justice.
Party leader Helen Zille told a news conference outside Parliament in Cape Town that Mogoeng does not have the outstanding legal skills required of such a position.
Zille says her party makes the submission as part of the constitutionally prescribed process of consultation which the President must engage in before appointing a Chief Justice.
She said it is important to note that Judge Mogoeng’s nomination has been opposed almost unanimously by the legal fraternity and by civil society.
