The National Union of Mineworkers has described Eskom's unilateral implementation of a two-year, seven-percent wage agreement as “a declaration of war”.
Spokesperson Lesiba Seshoka says Num will react with a programme of action that includes lunch-hour pickets and marches to Megawatt Park in Sandton, which will culminate in strike action.
The National Union of Metalworkers and Solidarity have also rejected Eskom's offer. Numsa and Num are demanding a 13-percent increase.
Meanwhile, Cosatu is organising a series of marches around the country later this month, building up to a one-day mass stay-away on the 5th of October.
It forms part of their living wage campaign. Issues of concern include the federation’s call to ban labour brokers and its stance against US retailer Wal-mart’s purchase of Massmart.
