Two crashes on the N-1 in the Karoo claimed seven lives.
Western Cape traffic Chief Kenny Africa says in the first incident, a minibus taxi and a car collided head-on between Laingsburg and Prince Albert Road, killing five people, including a baby.
Earlier this morning, two men died in an accident near Leeu-Gamka.
The Road Traffic Management Corporation revealed today that at least 710 people have died in 592 fatal crashes on South African roads since the beginning of the month.
Road Traffic Management Corporation Spokesperson Ashref Ismail says the Free State saw one of the biggest crashes when eight cars collided on the N-1 near Kroonstad.
The accident claimed the lives of eight people and left 14 injured.
