Cape Town Traffic Services has warned learner drivers to verify the credentials of their driving instructors.

Officials said there has been an increase in unlicensed driving schools who are charging very high fees.

The service's Merle Lourens said there is a procedure which requires instructors to be trained and registered.

She further said that any school or instructor must be in possession of a valid instructors certificate, a valid drivers licence for that class of vehicle and a roadworthy vehicle.
