The United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organisation are reportedly considering stepping into the Chapman's Peak debacle.

The UNESCO is said to have been asking local officials for more information about the pending construction of offices and a toll plaza.

Lewis Pugh environmental campaigner said that had written to the United Nations (UN) body requesting their intervention.

UNESCO officials said they will also be studying legislation around Table Mountain National Parks as a world heritage site.

Protesters opposing the construction on the scenic drive have reiterated that they have not ruled out legal action.
