Eastern Cape officials accused of abusing sick leave

In the Eastern Cape government employees are being accused of abusing sick leave to such an extent that it is undermining service delivery.

In the 2010/2011 financial year, 576 employees of the local government department took sick leave.

In the same year R4, 5 million was lost because of 5500 days that were lost to sick leave in the legislature at Bhisho.

A report has found that stress was the fourth-highest cause of absenteeism.
