Metrorail may find themselves defending a court action should the Western Cape Transport MEC Robin Carlisle go ahead with court action.

Robin Carlisle threatened to go the legal route if Metrorail fails to improve safety.

Over the past 10 days, at least four separate incidents of trains been set on fire in the province have been reported.

On Friday two carriages were gutted near the Phillipi train station. Metrorail said that it has suffered R18 million worth of damage.

Carlisle said that he sympathizes with the company to a certain level.

Carlisle added that the company needs to provide tangible evidence proving safety and security measures are being addressed.
