Medication dispensing to return to normal says Western Cape health department

The Western Cape Health Department said that for the past two weeks there has been a problem with the packaging for chronic medication.

The department’s media liaison Helene Rossouw said all the signs are there that things will return to normal today.

She added that they are calling on patients to go to their local clinics tomorrow to collect their medication.

Facilities affected by the problem are the Metro, one facility in the Winelands and five facilities on the West Coast.

The delay of the delivery of the chronic medication was caused by a difficulty of patient data transfer from the previous service provider to the new one.

The Bellville South day hospital has reported that they have not been receiving anything for the past ten days.

This resulted in chaos with many patients having to be turned away.

They have received medication yesterday which will be given to patients today.

At Khayelitsha day hospital it was reported that they have also been waiting for medication for a few days.

They received medication yesterday and today.
