The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) has condemned mob justice.

This comes after an incident took place over the weekend where residents of Khayelitsha necklaced a suspected criminal.

The suspected thief had a tyre put around his neck, doused with petrol and set alight after he was released on bail.

NPA spokesperson Mthunzi Mhaga said the community violence is crime and the NPA will investigate it.

He added that viewing community retaliation to crime as justice is a slap in the face of common sense.
