New Public Service and Administration Minister Lindiwe Sisulu has warned that salary increases need to be linked to performance and productivity, and not simply to pressure by unions.
Sisulu says the wage hikes should no longer be the automatic result of union negotiations.
She says government holds taxpayers’ money and they have to see value for money.
Sisulu has called on public sector unions to return to the negotiating table, following a deadlock in the wage talks.
