The constitutional court has ruled that SATAWU be held liable for the damaged caused to public and private property during a 2006 strike in Cape Town.

The security strike that turned chaotic lasted for two months.

The Democratic Alliance has said they want the ruling that was made today to apply to any and all cases of violent strikes that result in damaged property.

The DA’s Shadow Minister of transport Ian Ollis says this shows that the Cosatu affiliated union has lost the battle again.

He further says this will remind the trade unions that they are liable for damages caused by their members.
