The controversial Secrecy Bill will not be passed this week.
The Right2Know campaign said that an extension of the Bill’s deadline to August has been secured.
This comes after last week’s developments where an agreement could not be reached over proposed amendments.
These include greater protection for whistle-blowers and the removal of minimum prison sentences.
The Right2Know’s Murray Hunter said the ANC has asked for more time to work on the bill in parliament.
Hunter said it is very clear that the public pressure that has been credited by South Africans everywhere is beginning to take effect.
He said we need to keep up the pressure to ensure that the concerns on the Bill are addressed.
