De Doorns farmers demand better wages and living conditions

 Protesting farm workers in De Doorns in the Western Cape are likely to intensify their strike as negotiations with farmers to improve their pay remain deadlocked.

The strike has already cost farmers millions-of-Rands.

Striking workers in the area want their daily pay to be doubled, with a minimum wage of 150-Rands.

They are also further demanding better living conditions.

 Cosatu’s Tony Ehrehreich says the workers’ demands are justified.

This goes against the slave wages that are being paid by farmers in the area Ehrenreich said.

He urged the DA to stay away because Premier Helen Zille was chased away from Thursday’s meeting.

This is an indication of the growing conflict of the farmers on the one side, and the farm workers on the other side, the government are seen to take the farmer’s side.
