The South African Communist Party, Congress of South African Trade Unions, South African National Civic Organisation and the Concerned Lenasia Residents Association held a meeting on Saturday with the Chairperson of the South African Human Rights Commission.

Sanco vowed to do their best to keep Human Settlements Minister Tokyo Sexwale out of office because of his silence on the demolition of houses in Lenasia.

On the meeting the SAHRC was applauded for proactively instituting a court application to prevent and protect violation of human rights.

Sanco Spokesperson Dumisani Mthalane said the Minister`s silence on the issue is of concern.

The demolition started on the 8th of November and about 50 houses were demolished.

The Gauteng Department of housing said the houses were built on land meant for government housing.

SACP`s Jacob Mamabolo said they appreciate what the HRC has done.
