Members of the Farm workers Coalition, an affiliation of unions, Non Governmental Organisations and workers’ committees, predict more strike action this year.

On Sunday last week Bawusa members met in Paarl to discuss ways of how best to support farm workers on their protests.

The Farm workers` strike late last year became violent and led to the death of some workers.

The workers were demanding a pay increase of R150 per day.

Meanwhile the African Christian Democratic Party has urged workers not to engage in acts of violence when they are unhappy at work.

ACDP President Rev Keneth Meshoe said they also appeal to employers not to wait for protests but to take the initiative by implementing fair working conditions and salaries, and remaining in communication with their employees.

“We also appeal to members of the Police to be more vigilant, and to do their work with integrity and discipline without any form of corruption.” Said Meshoe.
