Today the Western Cape Department of Education said a total of 6 698 candidates have qualified for the 2011/2012 supplementary exams.

WCED said candidates that qualify to write supplementary exams need to apply as soon as possible.

Applications for supplementary exams close on the 21st of January, and will be written in February and March.

MEC Donald Grant said candidates can qualify to write supplementary exams if they failed up to a maximum of two subjects or if they did not qualify by missing exams because they were sick or medically unfit at the time.

They can apply to write relevant supplementary exams if they provide a medical certificate and supporting documents.
