NUM mourns the loss of Mama Silvia Benjamin

The National Union of Mineworkers has pronounced its sorrow at the loss of one its stalwarts Silvia Benjamin.

Together with James Malatsi, Cyril Ramaphosa and Elijah Barayi lead the NUM in its founding members.

Benjamin was the first woman Treasurer General of the body. Benjamin was buried yesterday.

Spokesperson Madoda Sambhata said that Benjamin was more than a treasurer; she was a mother to the union.

“As a union we are sorry to the family, but also for the fact that we lost one of our founding members lost during a time when the mining industry is facing serious challenges” Sambhatha added.
