The National Union of Mineworkers has condemned Impala Platinum for condoning and promoting violence at its operations in Rustenberg.

According to NUM the company is currently clocking in for workers who were arrested for attacking the NUM shop stewards in January.

NUM said management at Impala Platinum is doing this to encourage them to continue with their actions as well as to avoid dismissals on the basis of absenteeism.

NUM’s Eddie Majadibodu said that inn their view, Impala had been involved in sponsoring the violence in the operations.

“Impala has denied the NUM its constitutional right to have access to its members and to organize openly, where as it allowed the rival union AMCU to have offices and full time positions, for us this is unethical behaviour by a company as big as Impala Platinum mine” Majabodu said
