City to apply “marks” on drivers with outstanding warrants and unpaid fines

The City in conjunction with Provincial Government has started to apply admin marks, to ensure drivers with outstanding warrants are unable to renew their licenses.

Repeat offending drivers, who have outstanding warrants, are to explain why they should not pay their fines.

The City of Cape Town’s mayoral committee member for safety and security JP Smith said that the initiative is to keep and uphold law on the roads.

Smith said drivers with outstanding warrants and have not appeared before a court, will have a warrant of arrest issued for them.

“The will have a mark placed against their name will not be able to transact with the system and the City will not be able to renew their vehicle registration or drivers licenses; the mark can only be remover upon the outstanding fines and warrants” Smith added.
