Deputy Minister Elizabeth Thabethe: women all over the world are facing challenges

Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry, Elizabeth Thabethe said women all over the world are still subjected to discrimination, poverty, domestic violence, rape and abuse.

Thabethe added that an intervention including the strengthening of the Gender Machinery which is led by the Ministry of Women, Children and People with disabilities is one of many projects that government has in empowering women.

Departmental Spokesperson Sidwell Medupe added that Deputy Minister said challenges that women all over the world are facing can only be overcome and eradicated if the women themselves are prepared to roll up their sleeves and confront them head on.

Medupe said Deputy Minister was speaking at an international women’s day celebration that was hosted by the department of trade and industry in Mumbai, India.
