Netcare 911 and rescue services unit are currently on scene on an accident in the N1 north bound just after the Fourteenth off ramp.
Reports suggest that the accident involves multiple cars and a truck.
Netcare 911 Spokesperson Santie Steinmann said upon their arrival on scene they found that there was a truck, a minibus and approximately twenty two vehicles involved.
Steinmann said one man died during the accident and twenty-eight people sustained various injuries ranging from moderate to serious.
She also said a woman was entrapped in her vehicle after she was pushed against the Armcor barrier by the truck and the Jaws of Life had to be used to free the woman from the vehicle.
All the injured were treated on scene before being transported to various hospitals in the area, including Netcare Olivedale Hospital and Netcare Garden City Hospital.
Steinmann added that the exact details to the cause of the accident and preceding events are unclear and will remain the subject of a police investigation.
