The African National Congress said it has taken note of reports that in a City of Cape Town council meeting this week, a representative of the ANC uttered homophobic remarks.

ANC`s Phillip Dexter said this matter will be fully investigated by the leadership of the ANC and appropriate action taken if this is found to be the case.

Dexter said the ANC is against all forms of discrimination and prejudice, including homophobia.

He added that while ANC members are entitled to their own views, whether religious or otherwise, such views are not necessarily the ANC's policy position and it is the responsibility of all ANC members to defend and uphold the organisations policies, program, values and traditions.
