The African Christian Democratic Party has called on Minister of Mineral Resources Susan Shabangu to address the contradiction between the Mineral and Petroleum Resources Development Bill and the National Development Plan.

ACDP MP Cheryllyn Dudley said the ACDP welcomes the new environmental guideline.

Dudley said with labour challenges, rising costs and weakening currency, constrained budget and more than 30% platinum companies in the red, the mining industry is in crisis.

“The additional challenges of stricter environmental measures could seem like potential final straw, but fears are counted by promises of greater sustainability.

“This is much bigger than the mining industry, and will require change in thinking, culture, technology, education of leaders and investment plans” Dudley added.
