Child found dead in Phillippi

Philppi police are seeking assistants from the community in identifying the parents of a newborn baby who was found on a field in Philippi. 

Captain FC van Wyk said yesterday a man who was walking discovered the baby with the umbilical cord still attached. 

Van Wyk said the child was found wrapped in blue plastic bags, lying on the road, where she was declared dead on the scene.

“A murder and concealment of birth case was opened for investigation, an autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause of death” van Wyk added.

Van Wyk requested anyone with any information to phone investigating officer Detective Constable Clifton Stevens on
082 334 7564  or Phillipi police on 021 370 1900.
