Polokwane police said a gang of five suspects who have been terrorising students at the University of Limpopo for the past two year have been arrested.

The suspects concentrated mainly on students renting rooms off campus and who were walking to and from classes.

The suspects, who used to operate in groups of two to three overpowered the victims, dragged them into the bushes and raped them, sometimes at gunpoint.

Colonel Ronnell Otto said after intensive investigation the ringleader was arrested first and further investigations lead them to the other for suspects and they were arrested over the course of last week.

Otto added that they appeared in court on charges of rape, armed robbery and attempted murder and they are positively linked to several of those cases in that area and the group will collectively appear in court again on July the 17th.
