Nine people arrested for illegal occupying a housing project in Eerste River

Nine people were arrested on Sunday for public violence after they illegal occupied a housing project in Eerste River. 

Western Cape Department of Human Settlements said it recognises that there is a need for housing but the department will ensure that due process is followed and that the people who most deserve houses receive them. 

Phase 1 of the provincial Our Pride housing project in Eerste River consists of 600 houses and 221 Gap Market Houses.

Ministerial Spokesperson Bruce Oom said there’s been estimated of R500 000 damages, but the houses have procured and the invaders have been removed.

Oom added that the department will continue to ensure that houses that are meant for the people are received.
