The Right to Know Campaign has expressed its concerns regarding state security agencies holding too much power and unaccountable.

Right to Know Campaign spokesperson Murray Hunter said ordinary citizens do not know what the role of these state security agencies are, and whether or not their rights are being infringed regarding monitoring of communication.

Hunter said what they wanted from Parliament was a law that would ensure that citizens have full protection.

He added that there is a real need now for South Africans to begin a public debate about the role of national state security agencies in our democracy.
