Weekend roadblock statistics

Over  the weekend, Western Cape Traffic Department held 24 road blocks on the provinces main roads.

2 595 vehicles were stopped with 771 drivers tested for alcohol.

25 Drunk drivers were arrested; two taxis got impounded; while a driver was arrested for negligent driving.

Western Cape Traffic Chief Kenny Africa said another driver was arrested for attempting to bribe officers.

“The total amount of fines issued added up to R153 100, we tested the speed of 11 667 vehicles, out of which we prosecuted 1 463 drivers.

The highest speed recorded for this weekend was 210 km/h in a 120 km/h zone on the N1 between Paarl and Brackenfell” Africa added.
