Premier Helen Zille has requested a meeting with National Police Minister Nathi
Mthethwa to discuss the recent crisis of gang violence, in hotspot areas like
Manenberg.
Zille said the
situation in Manenberg has reached a new level over the past week, whereby
education is now being affected.
Premier’s
Spokesperson Zak Mbhele said with high absenteeism amongst learners and
teachers being fearful are just some of the things affecting education.
Mbhele added that
the education department is meeting this evening to come up with a safety plan
for schools in Manenberg.
"We are encouraged to
have had a response from Minister Mthethwa agreeing to have a meeting with the
Premier next Thursday". Mbhele added
