NSRI rescued a Chinese man on a boat in Hermanus

The National Sea Rescue Institute together with the South African Air Force and the Western Cape Health Emergency Services were activated to respond to an ill patient between Hermanus and Stuisbaai. 

The ship that the 56-year-old Chinese male was in reported to the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre that the man was running out of breath.  The 56-year-old is the 2nd engineer of the ship. 

NSRI Spokesperson Craig Lambinon said on arrival on scene the helicopter landed on the ships deck and the patient was found to be in a stable condition.

He added that Medical treatment was initiated by the EMS medical team and the patient has been airlifted to Air Force Base Ysterplaat, arriving where he was transferred into an EMS ambulance and transported to the Christiaan Barnard Memorial Hospital for further treatment. He is in a stable condition.
