A 26 year old woman and a child died in a shack fire in Manenberg

Fires in Philippi, Manenberg and Westlake left about 20 people displaced and two people dead over the weekend. 

City of Cape Town’s Disaster Risk Management Spokesperson Wilfred Solomon Johannes said the city’s response team has been deployed to the various communities to assist with provision of social relief aid and trauma counseling to the families affected. 

Solomon Johannes said the incident in Maneberg resulted in two people that died and they suffered extensive burn wounds which resulted in their deaths.

He also said the father evacuated out of the burning backyard dwelling unharmed. Police are investigating the incidents.
