An accident claimed two lives in Amanzimtoti River

Two people died in an accident on the N2 in Amanzimtoti River this afternoon.

The exact details to the cause of the accident and preceding events are unknown at this stage.

Netcare Limited Spokesperson Chris Botha said the vehicle a white Suzuki was traveling on the north bound lane when the vehicle veered off the road smashed through the barriers and plunged about twenty meters before coming to rest upside down in the water with the two occupants still trapped in the wreckage.

Botha also said paramedic, traffic department and the towing services arrived at the scene and immediately waded chest deep into the water to assist the trapped victims. A heavy recovery vehicle was used to winch the vehicle out of the water so the rescuers could break the window and pull them from the car. Tragically both husband and wife were declared dead at the scene.
