The Democratic Alliance said it has learnt that there are currently 209 judicial officer vacancies in South Africa’s courts.

While some of them are recent about five percent have been vacant for over a year, some have been vacant for over six years.  The DA has expressed its concern over this issue.

DA Deputy MP of Justice and Constitutional Development, Debbie Schafer said that Minister Radebe has received recommendation from the magistrates commission but has failed to accept them.

“I trust that the minister has excellent reasons for failing to fill 34 positions found vacant since 2004” Schafer added.
