The Western Cape Disaster Risk Management is still busy assessing damages caused by heavy rains over the weekend.

The City of Cape Town has also reported that approximately 44 informal settlements were affected with 4 631 informal settlement dwellings and 18 220 residents are experiencing discomfort.

The disaster management said it is concerned about the water supply to the Worcester area, damage to formal and informal housing, the road network as well as agricultural soil.

Director of Disaster Operations Jacqueline Pandaram said Department and Municipalities are busy with moping operation and social reliefs are still provided to those families in need of relief.

“At this point in time we still have contingency plans in place and our disaster centre across the province including the provincial disaster centre remain on alert should there need a rise for activation,” Pandaram added.
