The presidency has denied reports over the weekend alleging that President Jacob Zuma had a hand in an alleged withdrawal of an academic honour for Deputy President Kgalema Motlanthe in the People's Republic of China.

Presidential Spokesperson Mac Maharaj said the reports over the weekend are baseless and ridiculous.

Maharaj said neither the President nor his Private Office had any knowledge of this honour that was apparently turned down until enquiries came from two media houses.

Mac Maharaj added that the president has also noted reports earlier this year that President Jacob Zuma was preventing the Deputy President from travelling outside the country.

“These allegations are not true and the President and the Deputy President continue to work well together and share responsibilities including Cabinet” Maharaj added.
