The Railway Safety Regulator has
confirmed that it is conducting its own investigation into the fatal accident
which involved a taxi and a train on Sunday evening which left two people
died.
It is believed that the driver of a
taxi lost control while he was approaching the T-junction of a road over a rail
bridge.
The taxi then hit a concrete wall
and fell onto the railway line which resulted in the taxi being struck by the
train.
Acting Senior Manager on RSR Babalwa
Mpendu said after that incident a few minutes later there was a train that
struck a taxi from the rear-end and resulting in two fatalities and thirteen
people were injured as the result of that accident.
“We would like to urge people as
the Railway Safety Regulator to be cautious when they approach roads that lead to railway lines
and to reduce their speed as well,” Mpendu added.
