The Western Cape Department of
Education together with the provincial health department today launched an
initiative that will see a fleet of five state-of-the-art mobile units visiting
schools across the province to screen Grade R and Grade 1 learners.
This initiative will specifically
focus on poor and rural areas for conditions that require medical and dental
intervention.
Ministerial Spokesperson Bronagh
Casey said the wellness clinics will be filled with professional, who will
provide diagnostic assessments.
She added that a total of R24
million has been budgeted for this and it will run parallel to current
integrated school health programme service.
