The African Christian Democratic Party in the Western Cape is demanding swift action from the South African Police Service and the Western Cape Education Department in making schools safer in the province.

This as a 6-year-old boy was shot while on his way to school on Wednesday in Elsies River.

Police believe the shooting was gang-related.

ACDP Provincial Leader Ferlon Christians said this is not the only case in the area another teacher was mugged and robbed.

He further urged the education authorities to ensure the safety of learners and teachers at schools.
