Outgoing Western Cape MEC of Transport and Public Works Robin Carlisle has called for massive and strong lockdown of police in Vrygrond, Steenberg and Seawinds areas.

This as the taxi violence has escalated claiming nine lives in just a few days.  MEC Carlisle said the taxi violence is certainly now being amplified by criminal gang and drug related activities

Ministerial Spokesperson Siphesihle Dube said police should lockdown the area and secure it and make sure that all those perpetrating these crimes are arrested.

“The Western Cape government and Provincial Regulatory Entity  has been  engaging with the taxi associations concerned  for some months now  in a bid to find a solution but now it has found that there is an extra criminal, gang and drug related element  to this on-going tension which must be addressed steadfastly by SAPS “ added Dube
