The Right to Know said it is concerned about the risk the Ministry of Communications will be used to further weaken the regulatory capacity of the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa.

Right2Know National Spokesperson Murray Hunter said both the minister of Communications and the minister of Telecommunications and Postal Services needs to commit to upholding and advancing our right to communicate, to receive and impart information and opinions.

Hunter said it is very concerning that the SABC is going to come out in increasing pressure to promote government’s view of giving voice to the ground.

He added that in the broader sense there would less independent and less freedom of expression from the government policy.
