The Western Cape Department of Education is still concerned about pupils bringing weapons and drugs to school.

This as last week a matric pupil was stabbed to death with a pair of scissors outside Wellington Secondary School.

Ministerial Spokesperson Bronagh Casey said there has been a decrease of stabbing incidents between 2012 and 2013.

Casey said we need all the role players involved and that includes the learners themselves, as well as parents to ensure that they do not bring illegal substances or weapons to school.

"We do a number of interventions to try and prevent weapons from getting to schools such as searching scissors by SAPS and school management team as well as metal detectors at schools also the number of behavioral interventions where we look at learners that needs assistance in encountering and physiological support.” Casey added.
