The Congress of South African Trade Union said it condemns the violent strike action by the National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa.

However Cosatu has reaffirmed its support for the strike calling for the employers to bring new proposals to the table so that an acceptable settlement can be reached as quickly as possible.

Cosatu Spokesperson Patrick Craven said they have always strongly opposed and condemned any acts of violence during strike demonstration whether it will be against individuals against property or even threats of violence and intimidation.

“We do everything we can to prevent this happening andto make sure that these events are peaceful, lawfully and ordeal.” Craven added.
