WC working to make level crossings safer

Western Cape MEC of Transport and Public Works Donald Grant together with Metrorail Regional Manager Richard Walker will today as part of October Transport Month visit the Vlaeberg level crossing elimination project. 

Ministerial Spokesperson Siphesihle Dube said the different phases of the project will include the building of an overhead bridge, the building of a foot bridge as well as an upgrade on Metrorail’s service road. 

Dube said the current projects costs R7.7 million and is now targeted at the Vlaeberg level crossing.  The project will see 8 level crossings of the total 40 eliminated due to this project.

“We are very optimistic and we continue to be committed to employing all measures possible in making level crossing safer for all road users that use them” Dube added.
