Three police officers sentenced to 14-years in jail for theft

Three police officers aged between 37 and 40-years-old were sentenced to a combined 14-years behind bars by the Brits Regional Court for theft and defeating the ends of justice.

This is after the officers who have since been suspended from the police force stole two impounded cars from the police pound in September 2010.

The cars were recovered at a house in Rustenburg.

Brigadier Thulani Zwane said the provincial commissioner appreciated the great work that was done by those who investigated but more so she is very confident that this sentence sends a very clear message that criminality does not pay.

Zwane added that if there are rotten apples within the South African Police Service we will make sure that we deal with those individuals, and this is a very clear message that we are on top of that process.
