The City of Cape Town said it is saddened by the passing of Andrew Jantjies who was a volunteer fire-fighter.

44-year-old Jantjies died last night while he was assisting the City of Cape Town’s Fire and Rescue Service with a fire on a mountain in Kommetjie.

City of Cape Town’s JP Smith said he collapsed after he suffered from a heart attack.  He was declared dead on arrival at the False Bay Hospital.

Smith said Jantjies was an incredible asset and has done great work in the community and as a professional attorney in his private capacity.

“He leaves behind his wife and three children and we will do what we can to support the family” Smith added.
