Minister of Higher Education and Training Blade Nzimade on Monday announced that the financial assistance in the form of the National Student Financial Aid Scheme has been increased to R9.8 billion.

Ministerial Spokesperson Khaye Nkwanyana said the budget increase will hopefully help in the increase of the intake of young people who are in the post school education and training, so that we meet the objectives of the National Development Plan.

Nkwanyana said out of this amount the allocation to universities will cater about 205 000 students who are applying to universities and about 200 000 for all our 50 colleges in the country.

“This will mark a significant increase which will total to 405 000 students who will be covered by this particular loan scheme that includes also bursaries within it” Nkwanyana added.
