The Democratic Alliance on Friday said it will write to the Chairperson of the Public Enterprises Committee to summon Minister Lynne Brown and Eskom CEO Tshediso Matona to brief the committee on the latest financial crisis at the cash-strapped Eskom.

DA MP of Public Enterprises Natasha Michael the Committee should compel the Public Enterprises Minister and the Eskom CEO to take immediate action and to finally acknowledge that South Africa is on the brink of a crisis, which, without decisive action, will plunge South Africa into darkness.

She added that it is clear that the executive and Eskom are not giving the public the full truth of the crisis at Eskom.

Eskom managed to make it through the festive season without implementing load-shedding, something many South Africans feared.

The Power Utility on Tuesday confirmed that one unit at the Medupi Power Station will go live in mid-2015 despite a missed December deadline.
