The Western Cape office of the Ombudsman is up and running and Advocate Vusi Pikoli says his main focus of the office is to receive and investigate complaints from the public regarding police inefficiencies.

Advocate Pikoli said his office will seek to foster good relations between the police and the communities to make sure that both work well together.

Premier Helen Zille appointed Advocate Pikoli to head the office in 2014 following the Commission of Inquiry into policing in Khayelitsha.

Pikoli added that police inefficiency will manifest itself in the form of poor service delivery when the members of the public complain, it will be because they are not getting good service from the police.

“Sometimes the police would not respond immediately or even not respond at all. That’s enough of a cause for them to lodge a complaint to my office and my office will have to investigate that complaint.” Pikoli added.
