The Commission for Gender Equality says the death of hip-hop artist Nkululeko “Flabba” Habedi brings the spotlight on the issues of gender based violence particularly intimate partner violence.

Habedi was stabbed to death at his home in Alexandra on Monday morning, allegedly by his girlfriend Sindisiwe Manqele.

She was arrested on the same day and appeared in court on Tuesday and charged with murder.

CGE Spokesperson Javu Baloyi said it cannot be when people have conflict they solve it in a violent manner.

Baloyi said this is not a good example to the youth of South Africa who will assume that violence is the only answer.

“The commission calls upon like-minded institutions to come together to ensure that issues like this won’t occur again by sorting it out in the correct manner rather than resorting to violence” Baloyi added.
