40% salary increase for Social Workers

The Western Cape Department of Social Development has announced that it will increase salaries for social workers working Non-Governmental Organisations to 40%.

MEC Albert Fritz in a statement said the department will continue to capacitate and develop the eight-hundred and seven social workers and eighty social work supervisors currently working within the department, and the eight-hundred and ninety–three workers which the department funds through NGO’s.

MEC Fritz says this is so because we really believe to narrow the gap between the salaries earned by social workers from the state and salaries earned by social workers of Non-Governmental Organisations.

"We also see experienced social workers leaving the NGO’s to come to the state because the salaries are higher. A level of 40% increase for social workers I think will try and close that gap, Fritz added.
